Artist Bio

I am an amateur photographer. Photography has been my creative pursuit for most of my life, long before photography became digital. In photography, I am inspired by different forms of visual arts, especially painting and sculpture.

This exhibition is a collection of visual observations, shaped by fleeting moments, light, texture, and atmosphere, opened to interpretation, and grounded in a moment of attention. This reflects my approach to photography as a form of sketching — intuitive, immediate, and deeply personal.

In this series, photography becomes a process of observing rather than explaining — a way of preserving impressions before they fade.

Digital manipulation in Photoshop becomes part of the sketching process — similar to how painters rework surfaces and build compositions through successive marks. In modern art, Photoshop can be seen as digital painting, a modern dark room, and a digital art workshop. And then the work becomes not just photography, but a hybrid image practice - between photography, painting, and graphics.

I am presently a member of the Princeton Photography Club and a member of the People & Painting online gallery, based in New York City, where I had in 2025 an online personal photo exhibition (YouTube - Personal exhibition Leonid Slutsker June 2025).

I use the Sony RX10IV with 25X zoom camera and Photoshop Elements. My SmugMug website (leonidslutsker.smugmug.com) has ten galleries: Emotions, Silhouettes, Night Photographs, Reflections, Nature, People, Relationship, At the Art Exhibition, In Whirlwind of Life, and Life Prevail.
